Experience
Alaska Tours,
in collaboration with Taquan Air, would like to show you why Alaska is still called,
"The Last Frontier". This amazing tour offers you a once in a lifetime
experience that is sure to be the highlight of your Alaskan adventure.
You'll
feel the power of the DeHavilland Beaver as you lift off of the ocean with your
pilot guide in the cockpit. State of the art headphones allow you to enjoy this
fully narrated tour by air as you gently glide over Tongass Narrows and into the
majestic mountain ranges that make this part of the earth so unique. Southeast
Alaska is a vast wilderness landscape, with remote island logging camps, secluded
mining towns, high altitude lakes, and native communities throughout. It is for
this reason the float plane has become the most widely used and safest passenger
transportation. It is the true workhorse of Alaska. Your 30 minute flight to George
Inlet Lodge will bring you over the mountains to the far uninhabited side of Revillagigedo
Island. You will crest breathtaking peaks where the keen viewer may see mountain
goats resting on crisp snow or black bears foraging for fresh berries. Once
the plane gently touches down on the waters of George Inlet Fjord, it will glide
to a stop at the dock of the lodge, where your host will be awaiting. Have your
cameras ready for an unobstructed photo opportunity of your float plane lifting
off with the splendid Tongass National Forest as it's backdrop!
James
Michener wrote of George Inlet Lodge in his novel, Alaska. A converted
cannery bunkhouse, it made a momentous 5 year journey by ocean barge from
its original location near Hyder, Alaska. With not one pane of glass broken,
it came to rest finally on the shores of this pristine inlet where is
has served fishermen and travelers for decades. It is rich with history,
artifacts and an inviting ambiance. For many, this is the pure definition
of paradise.
Your
meal will begin with Alaskan Amber beer, white wine, and smoked salmon served
by the fireplace. Dinner features fresh romaine salad, topped with mandarin oranges
and tossed in homemade oriental dressing. Steaming hot Dungeness Crab paired with
clarified butter and baby red potatoes follow as the main course. Savor this Alaskan
delicacy that is prized for its sweet and tender meat but save room for dessert.
Rich, smooth cheesecake, smothered in Alaskan blueberries will be a perfect ending
to this world class meal! You'll then have the opportunity to relax and
take in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you. Chat by the fire, stroll
the dock, or pick up some souvenirs in our quaint shop before enjoying a fully
narrated drive back to historic downtown Ketchikan. This adventure is 2.5 hours
and truly an Alaskan experience not to be missed! This tour may run in reverse,
ground tour followed by flight. | |
